Mommy (or Daddy) & Me Tumbling Toddlers Gymnastic Classes
Ivanov's Gymnastics introduces our gymnastics classes for parents and walking toddlers up to 3 years of age.
Using our small-size gymnastics equipment in our special "Kindergym" area, we instruct you to safely guide your children into the exploration of basic body movement, gymnastics body positions, strength, and flexibility.
This is a high activity 45-minute class that meets once or twice per week. Either parent is required to attend; grandparents or another family member over the age of 18 can also attend with your child if a parent has to be absent for any reason.
Starting with BASIC BODY POSITIONS, we follow a progressive curriculum that includes real gymnastics skills, and FUN games with a purpose. We use basic gymnastics equipment (downsized for toddler to pre-school children), as well as the 50-foot tumble track.
Classes will include segments devoted to general locomotor and body position skills; general strength, balance, and sequencing activities, and skills specific to gymnastics apparatus (like bars and beam and vault).
Our Toddler classes are designed to teach the skills necessary to "graduate" into Preschool classes, in which we teach progressively more complicated gymnastics skills. Our Preschool (age 3-5.5) Skills Levels lead progressively into Beginner (age 5+) classes. Each level of our program focuses on skills that build upon the previous level; we believe in increasing your child's confidence and sense of accomplishment with each new level achieved. Children are rewarded at every level for their accomplishments with certificates and prizes, given at appropriately solemn ceremonies.
Gymnastics class is physically demanding; active children find that learning to focus their energy is both fun and rewarding. But keep in mind that gymnastics is also an important tool for early childhood education. Not only does gymnastics provide strength and conditioning that the child will use later on in a variety of team sports, gymnastics includes bilaterally symmetrical body movements that enhance perceptual skills. Gymnastics training provides sequencing drills of a motor nature that prepare the child for cognitive sequencing activities. Gymnastics provides an activity that a young child can enjoy, while enhanced neurological pathways are being built. It is not an accident that of all NCAA college athletes, gymnastics team members have the highest grade point averages.

Beginners classes: These classes are designed to introduce children ages 5 1/2 & older to the basics of gymnastics and all of the gymnastics apparatus. Skills are taught in progressions, where the new skills being learned are built upon skills that have already been learned. We also introduce all of the gymnastics terminology that they will need to know throughout all of their gymnastics classes. Basic strength and flexibility skills are also taught in order to help your child progress on to the next level of gymnastics. Children who have never done gymnastics before, or who are moving up from the Preschool program should register for this class. Beginner gymnasts may attend class once or twice per week.
Intermediate Classes: These classes are designed for children ages 5 1/2 & older who have some gymnastics experience. Children that have completed at least one session in the Beginners program are eligible to register for this class. Students will continue working through the gymnastics skill progressions on every event, building upon the skills that they have learned in the Beginners Program. There will also be more emphasis placed on proper body positions and correct gymnastics form. Intermediate gymnasts may attend class once or twice per week.
Advanced Classes: These classes are designed for children ages 6 & older who have even more gymnastics experience. Children who have completed at least 2 sessions of Beginners gymnastics, or 1 session of Intermediate gymnastics are eligible to register for this program. Children will continue to work through the gymnastics skill progressions, with an even greater emphasis on proper body positions and correct gymnastics form. There will also be added strength and flexibility skills as compared to the Beginners and Intermediate Programs. Advanced gymnasts may attend class once or twice per week.
Tumbling Classes
Designed for girls and boys ages 6 and older, this is a high activity 55-minute class that meets once or twice per week. Starting with basic tumbling skills, we follow a progressive curriculum that will teach your child Tumbling skills on the Floor and Trampoline only. Students in a Tumbling class will not be instructed in any skills on any of the other gymnastics apparatus.
Classes will include segments devoted to general locomotor and body position skills; general strength, balance, and sequencing activities, and skills specific to Tumbling and Cheerleading. Skills are learned in progression, with one skill building upon skills already learned. Students may progress at their own pace, and our instructors will work with each child at the level of their current ability, and increase the difficulty as they increase their ability level.
Our Beginners Tumbling classes are designed to teach the skills necessary to "graduate" into Advanced tumbling classes. Beginners Tumblers are students who do NOT have their Back Handspring. Advanced Tumblers are students who HAVE their Back Handspring. In the Advanced Tumbling Class, we teach progressively more complicated Tumbling skills, such as back and front tuck, Lay-out, full, and combinations of skills including these skills.
